| Stewart, Campanelli Return for Quickstrike Lady Blues 2010 Season |
NEWBURGH, N.Y. - The Hudson Valley Quickstrike Lady Blues agreed to terms with midfielder Erica Stewart and defender Erica Campanelli for the upcoming 2010 W-League season.
Both served as captains for the 2009 W-League Regular Season Champion Lady Blues, which is a strong starting point, Head Coach Jesse Kolmel said.
"It is very exciting to have two of our captains returning, so they will be able to set a good example for all the new players coming in," he said. "We have high hopes for the both of them."
Stewart played in nine games for the Lady Blues in 2009 while patrolling the midfield. She also has previous W-League experience with Jersey Sky Blue and helped lead Villanova University to a BIG EAST Championship in 2003.
"Having Stewart in the center of the park will basically allow us to have a coach on the field," Kolmel said. "She is a very intelligent and technical player."
Campanelli returns to the Lady Blues after anchoring the defense in eight games in 2009. The junior at the University of Texas registered one assist in the 2009 W-League season. This past fall, she played in 21 games while leading Texas to a BIG 12 semifinal appearance.
"Our defensive shape was our strength last year having only allowed nine goals," Kolmel said. "So, having Campanelli come back at center back is very important to us."
The Hudson Valley Quickstrike Lady Blues will kick off the season on Saturday, May 22 when they travel to take on the Long Island Rough Riders at 5 p.m.
